What Did Complex and the Police Say?
Complex, which runs ComplexCon, released a statement on Sunday. It said: "The safety and security of our guests, talent, partners and staff is our highest priority. We are aware of an incident that occurred outside the ComplexCon event yesterday and our security team and the LAPD responded immediately. We take incidents of this nature extremely seriously and remain focused on maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone attending ComplexCon." (Source: HotNewHipHop)
The statement did not name Lucki or mention Playboi Carti.
On the police side, reports citing TMZ say the LAPD is investigating the incident as an attempted murder. As of the latest reports, there were no arrests, and the number of suspects was unknown (Source: VICE). Anyone later identified or charged would be presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Was Playboi Carti Involved?
This is the biggest question online, and the honest answer is: it has not been established.
Here is what has been reported:
- Several outlets, including The Needle Drop and VICE, reported that the clash allegedly involved members of Lucki's entourage and people associated with Playboi Carti.
- Carti was seen at the scene in footage shared online, according to The Needle Drop.
- AllHipHop stated that "no verified evidence shows that he struck Lucki or ordered the attack."
- Playboi Carti and his representatives had not made a public statement at the time of writing.
Playboi Carti was one of ComplexCon 2026's co-artistic directors, alongside designer Hiroshi Fujiwara, and he headlined the Sunday concert (Source: Complex). That role explains why he was at the event. It does not, on its own, connect him to the incident.
Lucki and Playboi Carti: The Back Story
The two rappers have a short public history. In September 2024, they had an online back-and-forth that reportedly started with a misunderstanding over an Instagram Stories post. According to The Needle Drop, they reportedly cleared things up over a phone call later that month.
Lucki has also spoken warmly about Carti in the past. VICE quoted him saying: "I got like a soft spot for Carti. He the first person I know that I've seen in person myself… make his own world for himself."
Whether any old tension played a role on Saturday is not known, and it would be unfair to assume so without evidence.
